Mini McKean Studio LOVE

Posted on by

I am in love with these mini model sets by Australian husband and wife team McKean Studio.  All the products are about travel and cities, aswell as these mini handmade, hand painted sets, they produce bangles, scarves, prints and domino sets.

I’m totally after a Palm Springs set (and the dominoes) especially as we were there last month.  A good excuse for some memorabilia I think.

Stories For Autumn

Posted on by

Stories For Autumn is a lovely decor Etsy shop owned and hand made by Lindsey.  You can pick up the prettiest Christmas baubles, garlands, cushions and hand made prints.  This new business that started last year, is growing pretty quickly for this mum of 2 little ones and I’m sure it’s just the beginning.  The baubles are made in pretty pastel colour combinations and the glitter garlands are delicate, simple and stylish.  Who doesn’t love a bit of sparkle?

We love:

It’s just the beginning for Stories For Autumn and can’t wait to see the new creations that come.  Make sure you go and have a look at their Etsy shop, it’s time to start thinking about Christmas now we’re in October surely.  Oh, and there is also a Halloween garland too!

Our mini q&a with Lindsey:

Who do you live with and where?
I live in Manchester with my husband Dave, my three year old whirlwind Henry and little Ivy who recently turned 1.

What made you start Stories For Autumn and how do you want it to grow?
Stories For Autumn was born last year when I began making garlands whilst on maternity leave. I then moved onto Christmas decorations, which were so popular through social media and Etsy, that we’ve just launched our second collection.
I started designing cushions and prints for children’s interiors earlier this year and in recent months have seen them travel the world via Etsy as well as being sold in so many wonderful stores worldwide.
I’m looking to grow the company in the coming months, designing new collections and branching out into other areas. Exciting times ahead!
What have you found tough about motherhood?  What makes you laugh and heart melt about your children?
What have I found tough about motherhood? Its just pretty hard in general. Little sleep, and always something to worry about. I would say though, it all seemed to be easier the second time around. Or maybe I had just found my feet by the time Ivy was born. Seeing so many others going through similar things on Instagram certainly helped. Nice to always have someone to chat to at a 3am feed.

The best thing is how Henry and Ivy are together. They laugh and chatter constantly and I can see them being great friends.

Hugo Loves Tiki

One of my favourite new brands is Hugo Loves Tiki.  I just love the simplicity of the prints they have produced so far.
Founder Cheyenne studied photography at Indiana University, then travelled all over Europe before becoming a successful Wedding Photographer in Chicago.  After having her first child,  they moved back to Indiana.  Working from home and being creative, whilst  being able to spend a large amount of time with her son was a perfect insentive to taking the plunge in starting the new business.

Here’s a little q&a that the lovely Cheyenne did for us:

Where do you live and with whom?

Small town in Indiana.  My long time fiancé (15 years together) and 2 year old son Hugo.

What made you launch Hugo Loves Tiki, what inspires you and are there any new designs/products on the horizon?

Since I was 5, I desperately wanted to be a fashion designer and carried that torch with me always, but never thought I could do it as I’m not the greatest seamstress.  After getting pregnant and finding out I was having a boy, I was depressed with the choices from local chains such as Target.  Once, I found brands like Bobo Choses and Mini Rodini, my mind was blown.  And, I thought that screen printing shirts was a nice easy first step to wet my feet and hopefully one day progressing into a seasonal line.

I’m hoping to add more t shirt designs, pillow cases, hats, bags etc.  But, ultimately I want to find a seamstress and screen print fabric that can be sewn into garments I design.

Have you found your work/life/parenthood balance?

Recently, it has gotten a little hectic with wholesale orders.  But, one of my best friends babysits my other best friends kids and I usually drop Hugo off with her once a week so I can get orders printed and tags done while Hugo gets much needed social time with his besties.  We moved back to Indiana after living in New York and Chicago to be closer to family and friends for this reason.  We always have someone ready and willing to watch Hugo for work or if me and my fiancé need some alone time.

What do you love doing as a family?

We love having family time at the beach (lake) in the summertime, farmer’s market runs, and pool time is always a favorite.

To brighten the end of a very rainy half term we’re having a sale this weekend.  30% off the whole shop,  enter BEAN30 at checkout.

Hope the sun comes out this weekend wherever you are x

House of Hackney in the garden

Posted on by

I think my love for House of Hackney has grown a little more, now they’ve expanded a little with their prints to outdoor furniture.  Gorgeous deck chairs, and classic old loungers, in their prints of the season, are one for the summer garden wish list.

Having recently moved in to ‘project house’ we have a long list of jobs – one being the garden.  This furniture would spruce things up a bit though.  And take a look at the wind break, a must for a true Brit on the beach.
