TIBA + MARL

Posted on by

A good every day bag should be pretty easy to find when you have kids, but it’s not – or maybe I’m a bit fussy. But, worry no more and get a bit excited, because new brand TIBA + MARL launch in September and will satisfy your mum/dad bag needs.  Launching with 4 main styles, Raf, Elwood, Mabel and James, these bags all contain the following features: padded changing mat, insulated bottle holder, smart phone pocket, key fob, removable clutch or cross body bag, wipe clean lining, internal zip pocket, plus 4 extra pockets, a cross body strap, elasticated bottle/toddler cup holder, and metal feet on the base of the bags.  There is also a signature nappy changing clutch in the range, in various prints.  The styles and prints are varied enough to suit everyone, and a mum and dad team should be able to agree on one they are both happy to use, whether it’s plain black or leopard.

Screen Shot 2015-05-21 at 19.40.54Anna and Lydia are the mum’s behind these bags, both from a fashion background and now have 2 littles each so know what a good parent bag needs.  You can sign up to the waiting list here

We have one of our quick little q&a’s with Anna here:

Who do you live with and where?
With my husband James, my 2 year old son Raf and 4 month old baby boy, Miller. We live in Ealing, West London

How did you get together to form Tiba and Marl?  How have you found
starting a business and juggling motherhood?
Lydia and I have been friends for many years – she was my designer in my first job in fashion buying, back when we were really fresh faced!! Between us we have 4 children – both our youngest are still babies – we both couldn’t find a nappy changing bag we liked and decided that we would just create a brand ourselves!! We already have 80 people on a waiting list for our ELWOOD backpack – that in itself makes all the hard worth seem worthwhile, and we have received so many amazing messages from mums and mums-to-be saying they can’t wait for the bags. It has been hard work starting the business with small children but we are so passionate about the brand and it really helps that Lydia and I are in the same situation and can bounce off each other. In some ways it has been the perfect time to start a business as we are so driven and focused on our aims.

What is the hardest thing about motherhood for you right now and what is
your favourite thing to do or place to go as a family?
Hardest thing at the moment is that I’m still breastfeeding and he won’t take a bottle and I’m worried what I will do when we have our trade show in June – may just be sat at the stand with a baby on my boob!!! It is hard to balance family time and work, I’m finding myself particularly addicted to Instagram as exciting things are happening daily and it’s so temping to look constantly – but then I feel so guilty doing it in front of the kids 🙁

Favourite thing to do – we love days out in Richmond park or Kew Gardens followed by a family evening meal of dim sum! My two year old hoovers up prawn dumplings!

Maggie and Rose: a lil’ ones dream (and yours)

Last week we were so lucky to be invited to Maggie and Rose for the morning.  Maggie and Rose is a members club for families located in the hearts of South Kensington and Chiswick, and if you haven’t heard anything about it before it’s essentially Mum and baby H E A V E N!  Every detail in the club is well thought out from the preciously decorative walls, the toddler friendly toilets, and there is even a cinema for when the kids are done playing in amazing pearlescent ball pit.

Our Lil’ Beans loved wondering around the little play village complete with a lovely play house, numerous ride on race cars, and a tree house that has a slide leading to the much loved ball pit.

After a long play we enjoyed a little lunch in the delicious cafe with our friends from Do the Dip. Upstairs at the Chiswick branch is the Village Nursery that is the sweetest school for children up to the age of 5.  They also host a variety of classes to attend to help the little ones explore their creative sides.  In the winter it can be very difficult to get your kids to release all that energy and Maggie and Rose have created a wonderful concept that we hope to see more of.

mini road trip to Asheville

When we were away, we had our first child free 48hours in 2years.  We took a mini road trip to Asheville, North Carolina and loved it.  We would both definitely go back, and next time go on to Nashville, which was our original plan, but didn’t have enough time.

There are many independent stores, great places to eat with amazing food, micro-breweries, art spaces, and places to just sit and people watch.  We had brunch in the French Broad Chocolate Lounge, which as the name suggests, it is a chocoholic’s heaven.  Lots of hot and cold chocolate drinks to choose from, cakes and truffles to try.  Some other places we ate were Curate, Lab, and Limones.  Other good places to visit for food, that we didn’t have time for are, The Admiral, Table, and Tupelo Honey Cafe, to name just a few.

Garage 34 was full of local independent prints and clothes, The Mast General Store full of touristy gifts, wooden toys and sweets, great thrift stores down Lexington St and a really cool menswear store we spent quite a while in called Old North Clothing.

We had to visit the SkyBar at the top of the Flat Iron Building, to see the mountains and try a cocktail.

A memorable and relaxing 48hours.

Star Wars Mini

I found these Star Wars books about Darth Vader’s relationship with Luke and Leia as little kids while looking for a Father’s Day gift.  The books by Jeffrey Brown are fun for both us parents and the little one’s, and bring a light hearted touch to the ‘dark side’.

don’t forget the dads

We love this site ‘Not a Bad Dad‘.  Founded by Simon Tyler in April 2012, it’s an online magazine offering great articles and cool finds for dads and their kids.

fathershop

There is also a shop by Not a Bad Dad called ‘Father‘.  It has a selection of great hand picked products, full of design and quality.  The site has a cool feature where you can enter the birthdays you need to remember and it will send you a reminder a couple of weeks before the date, with a selection of gift suggestions.  These guys are truly creating something special and not forgetting the dads.

BAGGU: The new favorite bag

Baggu create a vast variety of sustainable, bright, and colorful bags.  They carry extremely durable rip stop nylon bags (hopefully we’ve all ditched the plastic bags) in several sizes in nearly every color under the sun, and might feature anything from a seahorse to a tee pee pattern.  Our new favorite is the Duck Bag in Neon made from recycled canvas.  The adjustable strap and pocket’s make it the perfect ‘mum bag’.  The Leather Baggu is another great item that works as the perfect transitional piece that can be thrown under the buggy or taken out at night.

Baggu are sold online and have shops in Brooklyn + San Francisco.  Highly recommend taking a peak at their wonderfully styled images on tumbler or instagram!

Padraig Cottage began slipper creating in North Vancouver 1977.  They have grown from one lady, Helen making them to 30 local artisans and staff.  The slippers are hand made and hand dyed in small batches, so each is unique.  They come in sizes from newborn through to adults, in many colour ways.  My lil’ beans have them, they wear well, and I can’t recommend them enough.
