turtlesselfridgesWe went to see the TOMS and Oceana Sea Turtle collection at Selfridges this week.  The kids range is exclusive to Selfridges and for every pair of TOMS x Oceana Sea Turtle shoes sold, TOMS will donate £5 to Oceana to help save the sea turtles.

The kids loved the fun games and marine life mask making and the turtle shoes are really cute.

wilbur_turtle turtlesselfridgesSea turtles play an important part in ocean ecosystems by maintaining healthy seagrass beds and coral reefs, helping to balance marine food webs and facilitating nutrient cycling from water to land.

The weather is starting to brighten up so get involved and help protect these turtles and get your littles a pair of these TOMS.

Screen Shot 2015-06-14 at 20.05.31I’m in love with the new Cult Of Youth collection, hand made by trained silversmith Kelly Seymour.  Kelly is London based and was inspired by her pregnancy for the collection, hence the MAMA and MOTHER necklaces.  I’m drawn to rose gold so that would be my pick, but there is also gold and silver to choose from – or mix it up with the chain and letters.  The necklaces caught the eye of many on instagram for these necklaces in particular and the waiting list grew.  As did Kelly’s tummy and is now a week away from her due date 🙂

Screen Shot 2015-06-14 at 20.05.44Kelly says: I was inspired by how superhero like you feel becoming a mama, if you can grow a human, you can take on whatever the universe has to throw at you.  I wanted to wear the word ‘mother’ like a big yellow S on the front of my shirt…

I like people that put a personal touch in to things, it brings a story and background to a collection or brand.  Kelly also takes custom orders for necklaces upon request.

One Day Young

Screen Shot 2015-03-04 at 21.27.56Last night I went to the preview of Jenny Lewis’ book One Day Young.  The book is aselection of images Jenny took for a personal project she began in Hackney 5years ago.  It captures women and their newborns in the first 24hours together.  The pictures are totally beautiful and full of love.  Those first hours of just staring in wonder at meeting this little person that you will be connected with and grow with from that day on, and changed your life.

A handful of images are up along the top floor of Boxpark in Shorditch, you can also get the book here.

There is also a book launch at the Ace Hotel next week, 11th March at 6.30pm, where you can meet the lady in person and grab one of these books.

We all know motherhood is a tough one and has it’s ups and downs.  But seeing this last night and flicking through the book on my way home reminded me how lucky I am to have experienced that feeling Jenny has captured in the eyes of the women she photographed and what a beautiful image they each have to treasure of that first precious day when nothing else really matters.

Happy Mallow

Last month I came across the very new sweet treat business Happy Mallow.  Owner and mallow maker B, jumped in and launched her dream that’s been in the pipeline for a while after having her daughter.  You can read more about the beginnings here:

We love marshmallows, so when I saw these gorgeous big delights I had to order a lucky dip box to try with the boys.  The box (hand delivered at that) consisted of 8 large mallows of various flavours to try, vegan and/or gluten free.  We had vanilla with sprinkles, chocolate orange (the eldests favourite), coconut & lime, rhubarb (seasonal) and hibiscus & mint.

They were all divine, and I’ll be ordering again as there are other flavours that are tempting me back to try like the churros and hazelnut mocha.  While I’m at it I might have to try the hot chocolate blocks too.  Go and be tempted too  www.happymallow.com

Here are a quick 3 questions with the lovely B herself:

Where do you live and with whom?

I live in a little flat with my partner Tom, & our 10 month old Mia (affectionately known as Nugget), in Tooting Bec.

What do you love about marshmallows and what is your favourite flavour you’ve made so far?

I’ve always loved the classic pink & white marshmallows, and toasting them over campfires, but since experimenting I’ve equally fell in love with how versatile they are in terms of flavour. I do get a little carried away concocting different flavours, but my current favourite would have to be Hazelnut Mocha.

How have you found being a mum so far?  What’s your favourite time of day with your little one?

Since Mia turned 6 months I feel like I’ve started to relax into motherhood a bit more. I think we’ve managed to master some sort of version of the elusive ‘routine’ and she’s so much more interactive now & fun to be around. Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with PND (post natal depression) after her birth, but have been lucky in that I was able to get treatment quite quickly & have been feeling like my old self for about 4 months now. It was a massive shock & learning curve having PND, as is motherhood for anyone in fact, and I’m quite passionate about finding ways to help support other mothers who are suffering. Hopefully that’s something I can focus on in the near future once Happy Mallow finds it’s feet.

As for my favourite time of day with Mia…there’s always lots of moments in the day when she’ll do something to surprise me or make my heart burst, but I do love our little morning snuggles in my bed whilst she has her milk.
