I’m in love with the new Cult Of Youth collection, hand made by trained silversmith Kelly Seymour. Kelly is London based and was inspired by her pregnancy for the collection, hence the MAMA and MOTHER necklaces. I’m drawn to rose gold so that would be my pick, but there is also gold and silver to choose from – or mix it up with the chain and letters. The necklaces caught the eye of many on instagram for these necklaces in particular and the waiting list grew. As did Kelly’s tummy and is now a week away from her due date 🙂
Kelly says: I was inspired by how superhero like you feel becoming a mama, if you can grow a human, you can take on whatever the universe has to throw at you. I wanted to wear the word ‘mother’ like a big yellow S on the front of my shirt…
I like people that put a personal touch in to things, it brings a story and background to a collection or brand. Kelly also takes custom orders for necklaces upon request.
See the full collection here and you can follow Kelly on instagram here.
Not In My House UK is a very new brand (just a month old) that produces lego art for kids and adults for that matter. Rachael, the mother brains behind this idea makes them to order and has already been commissioned by Kids Trade Show Dot to Dot and events company MAD (mum and dad) LIFE for pieces.
Rachael sources lego from anywhere and everywhere, buying second hand from car boots, ebay and her boys to buying new for specific pieces or colours. A website is on it’s way but for now you can see Not In My House UK on facebook and order on Etsy. There’s lots more to come from Rachael and NIMHUK, so like their facebook page and keep up with what’s to come.
3 quick ones with Rachael:
Where do you live and with whom?
I live in a small picturesque village called Clapham in the Yorkshire Dales where our neighbours are sheep and Alan Bennett
I live with my husband James Atkin my 2 boys Sonny age 9 and Marley age 7 Hobo the cat age 5 and 2 Guinea Pigs Mogwai and Felix Age 6 months
How has being a mum changed you? What are the dynamics in your house being the only female amongst boys?
Being a mum changed my hugely when i had Sonny,i struggled with my identity and felt like i could no longer be the person i was, becoming a mum is the biggest thing that has ever happened to me in my life and it has been the most rewarding and yet most challenging. As the kids have got older i feel more like me again and realised that i could be myself and my kids mother. My kids are my biggest achievement in my life and have given my life more purpose and i try to be the best mum i can be and that is a big journey in itself with lots of mistakes and learning happening on the way!!!
I am a total tom boy and so being surrounded by the boys isnt too big a deal-i think i would have struggled more being surrounded by girls to be honest! The boys dont take themselves too seriously and the toilet humour is right up my street and to be fair im probably worse than them on that front. I am getting used to the boys pointing and laughing at my various body parts as the ageing process kicks in and there is defo no room for ego when your child pokes at what you think is a beautifully toned tum and says ‘Mama has a big fat belly’
What’s your favourite thing to do as a family and meal to eat?
One of the treats we have as a family which may not seem as a big deal but is to us living in the sticks is a city trip with a wagamama lunch thrown in – the kids love it there and me and james always share a bottle of wine – we call it a ‘boozy lunch’ ha and the kids love it coz they know we are much more generous with a glass of wine in us !!!
I am in love with these mini model sets by Australian husband and wife team McKean Studio. All the products are about travel and cities, aswell as these mini handmade, hand painted sets, they produce bangles, scarves, prints and domino sets.
I’m totally after a Palm Springs set (and the dominoes) especially as we were there last month. A good excuse for some memorabilia I think.
Love these pants from U.S brand childHOODS. Handmade in Texas, they are great looking, yet simple basics. A great thing about small brands like this is, if you don’t see the size you like you can pay a bit extra for a custom order. It’s the little things sometimes, that make all the difference.
If you’re an instagrammer you can follow them on @child_hoods
The birth of Prince George is great excuse for us to show off some of our favorite crowns. They are the perfect accessory for a party, or just to wear on a day you’re feeling that special! Welcome to the world little guy …
Harriet’s Haberdashery is a wonderful etsy shop from Colorado filled with handcrafted designs for little Harriet, by her Grandma and namesake. ‘Big’ Harriet has worked closely with her daughters to to create clothing for children using all natural materials such as raw silk, linen, and hemp. Every piece shows a lot of care and thought has be brought into it with their wonderful details and accents of bright colors. They have done a wonderful job at taking what may be seen as classical designs and giving them a modern identity. All designs are one offs and can be made to order. We are in awe over the Patchwork Quilt Dress pictured above.
This weekend we’re off on our bi-annual trip to the UK kids trade show – Bubble London. We’re excited to see what some of our favourite brands have in store for S/S 14, and hopefully discovering some new little gems.
I’m sure we’ll be letting you know our ‘loves’ on the blog next week.
Happy weekend and Father’s day x
