A Family Affair

Posted on by

lomo family affair posterv6-PRINT copyThis weekend we will be part of London Mothers Club Family Affair.  It’s on Sunday 6th April in Fulham, so if you’re in London come down and say Hi.  There will be a lot of things going on, for a great family day out, whilst donating a little to charity. £2 of each ticket sale goes to Genetic Disorders UK.

There will be a kids fashion show, that we’ll be taking part in as well as having a stand at the event.  There will be lots of stuff for the kids, like graffiti demos and face painting, manicures for mums and food stalls for all.  Tickets are available through the London Mothers Club site (see above).

Maggie and Rose: a lil’ ones dream (and yours)

Posted on by

Last week we were so lucky to be invited to Maggie and Rose for the morning.  Maggie and Rose is a members club for families located in the hearts of South Kensington and Chiswick, and if you haven’t heard anything about it before it’s essentially Mum and baby H E A V E N!  Every detail in the club is well thought out from the preciously decorative walls, the toddler friendly toilets, and there is even a cinema for when the kids are done playing in amazing pearlescent ball pit.

Our Lil’ Beans loved wondering around the little play village complete with a lovely play house, numerous ride on race cars, and a tree house that has a slide leading to the much loved ball pit.

After a long play we enjoyed a little lunch in the delicious cafe with our friends from Do the Dip. Upstairs at the Chiswick branch is the Village Nursery that is the sweetest school for children up to the age of 5.  They also host a variety of classes to attend to help the little ones explore their creative sides.  In the winter it can be very difficult to get your kids to release all that energy and Maggie and Rose have created a wonderful concept that we hope to see more of.

magnetic Tegu

While we were away on our hols, we saw these lovely magnetic building blocks by Tegu.  Founded in 2006 by brothers Chris and Will in Honduras (Central America).  They come in many size packs, car packs, building packs, and accessories like wheels.  Not cheap, but really well made and thought out in design.

Shusha toys from Russia with love

Posted on by

Shusha toys was founded when a  young couple with background in design, wanted to create some special wooden toys whilst waiting for their lil’ one to arrive.  All the toys are made in Russia, and are the some of the nicest modern wooden toys we’ve seen in a while.  The wooden faces from Shusha are great, somethings are made for keeping.

Thief & Bandit love

We are so in love with these dresses and unisex leggings.  I have been an admirer of Aime’s brand Thief & Bandit for a long time, and now we are over the moon that we will be having them on our lil’ beans kids store.  The fabric is organic jersey and all hand screen printed and made to order.  The prints are bold and colourful and I have seen there are leather goods on the horizon!  Big love for this Canadian brand.

Where do you live and with whom?
I live with my husband, Johnston and my two boys Wolfgang (3) and
Dutch (7 months) and of course my beast of a dog, Leroy.

What influences and inspires your fabric designs?
My influences range greatly. I do a ton of ink drawing in my
sketchbook and I source my drawings from historical patterns,
wildlife, vintage imagery etc. Some of my favorite prints are from
little random sketches in my sketchbook. Usually it’s when I’m not
trying that the good stuff appears.

What is your favourite time of day with your boys?
My favourite time of day with my boys is morning time before we take
Wolf to preschool. Here we hang out in our living room and watch
cartoons or listen to music. Johnston and I work at night a bunch so
this is our time to hang out, drink coffee and admire our beautiful

A little Ruff & Huddle

RUFF AND HUDDLE A/W 13 from Two of Swords on Vimeo.

We love new British boy brand Ruff & Huddle, cool wearable streetwear for kids.  AW13 is their first collection which includes a collaboration with designer Zakee Shariff, consisting of star print sweat top and bottoms and a very cool embroidered jacket, which I love.  We were excited to also see some of what they have in store for us for SS14 at Bubble London last weekend.  The collection has grown, great check board top and shorts, reversible bomber jackets with a bone print and of course some cool tee’s.  The ‘Rude Boy’ tee caught my eye.

Below are our 3 quickie’s with Lucy, founder of this refreshing new brand:

Where do you live and with who?
Leytonstone with my boys, Rufus, 4 and Hudson, 2.

Why did you start Ruff & Huddle, and how would you like it to grow?
I started RH as a reaction to bringing two boys into the world and not finding anything cool to dress them in. It started off as an idea to make a couple of tees and organically grew into a line of sweats, crews, tees and jackets – all based on classic street wear pieces and shrunk down for the little ones.

I’d like to see the brand become a staple go to for parents with boys and girls. Continue to grow the product lines, perhaps increase our accessory selection – collabs with brands and artists… who knows… we’re open to suggestions!

What is your favourite thing to do with your children?
We love the park! They’ve got a ton of energy they need to run off. The youngest has started riding a scooter and my eldest a bike – we now fly round the park!

Ruff & Huddle  – also going to be in Selfridge’s for AW13.

Happy weekend x

Let’s get Bubbled!

This weekend we’re off on our bi-annual trip to the UK kids trade show – Bubble London.  We’re excited to see what some of our favourite brands have in store for S/S 14, and hopefully discovering some new little gems.

I’m sure we’ll be letting you know our ‘loves’ on the blog next week.

Happy weekend and Father’s day x

Yo Gabba Gabba

Posted on by

I might be late to the party, but I just recently discovered Nick Jr.’s Yo Gabba Gabba from the U.S. and fell in love.  The more I read up on it I’ve discovered it’s a bit like Marmite, parents love it or hate it!  I often put on an old Muppet Show to show the Lil’ Bean something I loved as a child, and was so pleased to find a current show that is so creative and enjoyable to watch.

Developed by two fathers who were disappointed in the state of children’s television they created a show that features some amazing segments that both we and the Lil Bean enjoy.  We love to dance to the musical acts where anyone from Chromeo to Band of Horses may be singing a song about Nature, the lessons taught like “Don’t Bite Your Friends” and “Party in My Tummy” where one of the show’s Monster’s encourages kids to eat their veggies, and Mark’s (Mothersbaugh) Magic Pictures.  We also adore the goofy DJ Lance Rock who could run miles around Mr. Tumble.

Here’s a favourite of Mos Def as Super Mr. Super Hero.

This brand was launched by 2 sisters in 2002, on a stall in Bondi market, Sydney.  Initially starting with t-shirts and onesies, they now have denim, sweats, skirts, shorts, dresses for ages 0-7yrs.  The clothes are bold and graphic, and all about fun and comfort.
