Love these pants from U.S brand childHOODS.  Handmade in Texas, they are great looking, yet simple basics.  A great thing about small brands like this is, if you don’t see the size you like you can pay a bit extra for a custom order.  It’s the little things sometimes, that make all the difference.

Bandit Kids

I’m a fan of Emma Labattaglia’s work, aka Pax and Hart.  The brand is named after and inspired by her children.  We have one of the lion print cushions that were a collaboration with Salt City Emporium.  And now we have been awaiting the imminent release of the collaboration with Australian brand Bandit Kids.  The brand is great for a relaxed, quirky with a skater edge style.  Pieces that will not date and you’ll want to pass on to siblings, friends or family.

Can’t wait to grab a few pieces for the boys!

Hugo Loves Tiki

One of my favourite new brands is Hugo Loves Tiki.  I just love the simplicity of the prints they have produced so far.
Founder Cheyenne studied photography at Indiana University, then travelled all over Europe before becoming a successful Wedding Photographer in Chicago.  After having her first child,  they moved back to Indiana.  Working from home and being creative, whilst  being able to spend a large amount of time with her son was a perfect insentive to taking the plunge in starting the new business.

Here’s a little q&a that the lovely Cheyenne did for us:

Where do you live and with whom?

Small town in Indiana.  My long time fiancé (15 years together) and 2 year old son Hugo.

What made you launch Hugo Loves Tiki, what inspires you and are there any new designs/products on the horizon?

Since I was 5, I desperately wanted to be a fashion designer and carried that torch with me always, but never thought I could do it as I’m not the greatest seamstress.  After getting pregnant and finding out I was having a boy, I was depressed with the choices from local chains such as Target.  Once, I found brands like Bobo Choses and Mini Rodini, my mind was blown.  And, I thought that screen printing shirts was a nice easy first step to wet my feet and hopefully one day progressing into a seasonal line.

I’m hoping to add more t shirt designs, pillow cases, hats, bags etc.  But, ultimately I want to find a seamstress and screen print fabric that can be sewn into garments I design.

Have you found your work/life/parenthood balance?

Recently, it has gotten a little hectic with wholesale orders.  But, one of my best friends babysits my other best friends kids and I usually drop Hugo off with her once a week so I can get orders printed and tags done while Hugo gets much needed social time with his besties.  We moved back to Indiana after living in New York and Chicago to be closer to family and friends for this reason.  We always have someone ready and willing to watch Hugo for work or if me and my fiancé need some alone time.

What do you love doing as a family?

We love having family time at the beach (lake) in the summertime, farmer’s market runs, and pool time is always a favorite.

To brighten the end of a very rainy half term we’re having a sale this weekend.  30% off the whole shop,  enter BEAN30 at checkout.

Hope the sun comes out this weekend wherever you are x

With most of the Easter chocolate gone now, I’ve made the odd slightly healthier treat this week.  One being these brownies, made with sweet potato.  Not the best picture, and I overcooked them a bit (distracted by bean 2 + 3) but they tasted pretty good and would definitely make them again.

I’m thankful today is Friday this week…. happy weekend xx
